Preppers a guide to the truth

Have you watched the news or read a newspaper and seen the word prepper? Ever really think, what is a prepper? Hello I’m James, I’m here to give you an idea of what a prepper is. There will not be any guessing or assumptions since I am a prepper. What you read is the way I see this as well as many of my friends who are like minded.

#1 Preppers are gun toting extremists bent on taking over the government.

That one always makes me laugh. No we are not, we have no interest in taking over any thing. We believe the United States has a guiding set of rules, we often refer to them as the constitution. We want the government to follow these rules, it’s the guidance that made this the greatest country on earth. Take a few minutes and read them. Then go watch the news, doesn’t matter which one. Sit and think, is what the president and the house doing fit into the constitution? The constitution gave very limited power to the federal government but they have far out grown their scope of power. They need to be reined in not taken over. A rebellion costs lives and untold amounts of money are lost, that’s not a good thing.

#2 Preppers are food hoarding loons.

Although preppers do store food this is not a new concept. Ever sit and talk to your grand parents? Most have stories of the old days when food wasn’t as easy to come by. They grew gardens and canned food in the summer. When winter came they had food to eat. Lets think a second here, (it wont hurt I promise). If there was a disaster be it man made or a act of nature. The powers out for a week. Sound bad? Well wait I’m getting to the bad. What is so bad about a loss of power for a week? Well lets see, no power is no gasoline, no food in the local wally world because the trucks need gas, no medical help because(yea you guess it, hospitals need power as do emergency vehicles.) So just how nutty is storing up a bit of food? I for one will be eating steak while a lot of people are standing in a food line, if the feds can get the food to a food line as the feds trucks need gas as well.

#3 Preppers make bombs and other bad things.

I tickle myself at times. No we do not make bombs, flame throwers, nerve gas, tactical nukes or laser guns. A well prepared person has no need to commit crimes, we live with in the laws of our country. Some may know how to do some of the above. But don’t bother asking one how. We are not in the business of weapons of mass destruction, we don’t make, use or teach others to kill.

#4 Preppers are religious nut cases.

So if I believe in God and trust in his wisdom I am a nut case? I’m not even sure how to address this one. This country was founded because of religion, so the people could worship without fear. Or in some cases not to believe at all. We don’t care what your belief is but let us believe as we want.

#5 Preppers are waiting on a disaster so they can kill people.

Oh that will be the high light of my day, get up and have cup of coffee then go shoot few farmers. Come on people think, do you really believe the crap you have heard? We don’t want to shoot, harm or even insult people. But we are not opposed to defending our homes and families from danger. If that requires killing then so be it, but it is a last ditch effort. Our goal is to live in peace and allow others the same consideration.

#6 Preppers are heartless.

So if I have enough food for my family I am heartless to not share? Even though sharing would mean my family would go without. Are you blind and stupid? Did you not see the same news I saw? It was your choice to buy that DVD of the best of I Love Lucy instead of a case of spam. We love our fellow man, if we can help we will. But we will not jeopardize our own families health for a person unwilling to help him self.

Is there really a need to prepare in this day and age? I believe so. I’m not saying one should have an arsenal with hundreds of guns and thousands of rounds of ammo in your basement. I’m not saying one should store five years of food.
It would however be smart to have enough food and water along with the necessities of life so that you could survive a disaster if it arose. Unfortunately that does involve a firearm and ammo along with the training to use it. It is in humans nature to take if they are hungry, that cant be allowed. The police would be over whelmed, they could do little to protect us in that scenario. Not to mention hunting for food, I find a gun works well for hunting, I cant seem to get the hang of running a deer down on foot.

So before you judge us all and assume we are all nuts, I invite you to come to a prepper site like ours and talk to us. Feel free to say anything you like, call us nuts and loons. You might get an argument but no one will threaten to blow up your house or kill your dog. Spend a few evenings with us, you might learn we all share the same fears. The difference is that we prepare for it.
